“Web 2.0″

Well I’ve finally got to the root of Web 2.0… After our company having been finalists at the MIPTV Innovation conference in Cannes for innovation in sorting out the BBC’s problems with its Long Tail almost a year ago it’s finally clicked… We’d have probably won if we’d have known what I now know….

So what is the secret of Web 2.0? No it’s not the definition, not the technologies, not the key players or even figuring out why it wasn’t called Web 1.1 or why it didn’t adopt a more Web 2.0  brand such as flickr, or del.ici.ous. Well at least it’s not one of those horrendous TLA’s (I can’t stand people who use TLAs - such a dad joke)

The key to Web 2.0 is in its pronunciation…

How do you say “Web 2.0″?  Try it….. Web two point…….?

“Web two point zero”… wrong

“Web two point nought”… more wrong

“Web two point nothing”… clearly wronger

Here goes… it’s now officially pronounced

Web two point… OH

Check out the man himself http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d8QS5OmsbWw

Now is that a “Web two point… oh dear that was a rubbish suggestion that I’ll live to regret)” or a “Web two point… oh dear I’ve forgotten to put the bins out)”.

I personally think the ‘Oh’ comes out of the realisation that O’Reilly simply stumbled upon the idea and now he’s an icon…

The next matter of my research will be into the number of and implied meanings of the multiple pronunciations of ‘Oh‘.

The bigger question is will there be a Web 2.1 as this would clearly clarify the global pronunciation defect of the looming Web 3.0 - someone please save us all…
